FAQ

There are many important factors to consider when thinking about installing a new temperature control system in your home or office. Browse below for some of the most common questions our customers ask us.

Can I install or service my system myself?

No. Installing and servicing a climate control system is highly specialised. Installation or repairs undertaken without proper training and certification can not only be costly, but they can also be dangerous, leading to serious health and safety risks for you and your household.

When you choose a licenced professional, they’ll provide you with a warranty for both the system installed and the work undertaken, so you can be sure you’ll be covered for any potential faults.

Can I run cooling through the same ductwork as my heater?

Adequately sized or designed for add-on refrigerated cooling can be run through the same ductwork as gas or electrical heating. However, evaporative cooling needs its own ductwork due to the air humidity and the specific duct layout it requires.

How can I reduce the cost of my heater?

You can improve the efficiency of your electric and gas ducted heating by doing the following:

  • Turning off the system when members of your household are sleeping or out of the house
  • Installing insulation in your ceiling and walls
  • Sealing gaps around doorways and windows
  • Reducing the ‘set’ temperature – the higher the temperature, the higher your bills!

How much does it cost to run my heater?

Running costs will vary greatly, depending on a number of factors:

  • The design of your house or office, including its size, celling height, window coverings and level of insulation
  • Whether you choose a gas or electric heating system
  • Where your ducts will be installed
  • The number of gas and other electrical appliances that you currently run in your premises

Natural gas-fired ducted systems with a high star energy efficiency rating will generally be cheaper than even relatively efficient electric heating. The total cost of running your heating will therefore depend on the factors listed above, and on your overall usage.

What are the benefits of gas vs. electric heating?

While the two systems can both be run through floor or ceiling ducts, and can both incorporate add-on refrigerated cooling, they differ greatly in terms of cost and efficiency.

There are two main advantages to choosing gas heating:

  • Its running costs are lower than electric heating
  • It’s more environmentally friendly

For many people, it’s very important that they can stay warm throughout winter having to pay expensive energy bills. And because heating and cooling make a significant contribution to our household bills, many people choose gas heating for its lower running costs and its ability to heat up larger spaces far more effectively than electric heating.

It’s also more environmentally friendly than electric heating, generating much less greenhouse gas.

If natural gas is unavailable in your area, or you do not wish to connect your home to natural gas, there are still ways you can create efficient electric heating. Keep reading below to see how you can make your electricity-powered heating more efficient.
